As an alternative to open surgery, gynecologic laparoscopy employs a scope to examine the pelvic area through a minimally invasive incision to diagnose and treat such conditions as endometriosis, fibroids, cyst removal, and to perform tubal ligation and hysterectomy. Instruments commonly used in lap gyn procedures include cannulas and needles, clamps and forceps, dissectors and probes, graspers and forceps, electrodes and electrosurgical cables, knot pushers, needle holders, retractors, suction tubes, speculums, and scissors.
