Leep, or Loop Electrical Excision Procedure, is a gynecology procedure in which a wire loop with an electric current is used to remove cells in the cervix and lower genital tract, typically to remove abnormal or cancerous cells. A Lletz procedure (or large loop excision) is performed to remove cells on the cervix surface. Instruments commonly used in LEEP and LLETZ procedures include forceps, hooks and electrodes, retractors, and speculums.
