Specialty shoulder retractors can be hand-held or self-retaining. Self-retaining retractors typically are used to retain incisions in an open position whereas hand-held retractors are used to retract ligaments, tendons, tissues, and muscle structures. Popular hand held patterns include glenoid retractors, bennet, blount, Bankhart, Bristow, Browne-Deltoid, Bolanos Chandler, Burkhead retractors with T-handles, Capsule retractors, Fukuda, Humeral Head, and Sofield. Self-retaining patterns include Buxton, Kolbel handles and blades, rotator cuff and sub acromion retractors, and assitant free shoulder blade frames and attachments.
